POLICE today revealed drugs raids in Blackburn could have uncovered as much as £120,000-worth of heroin.

In what is thought to be the biggest-ever heroin seizure in the town, one and half kilos of the drug was recovered from a house in Swallow Drive on Sunday.

A pneumatic press for compressing powder into dealer-sized blocks was also seized.

More than 50 police also swooped on two other addresses in Blackburn and the man leading the investigation, Acting Detective Inspector Ian Critchley, said the result represented a "major result" for the Targeted Crime Unit.

Initially, police believed the haul represented between £50,000 and £80,000 worth of the drug.

"This is the most significant quantity of heroin seized in Blackburn, certainly in the last 10 years, and we are delighted with the outcome of this operation," said DI Critchley.

Two men were arrested and have appeared in court but Inspector Critchley said their inquiries would continue.

"As a result of the operation we have other lines of inquiry to pursue," he added.

Blackburn magistrates ordered that Ayub Khansia, 45, of Tintern Crescent, Blackburn, and Siraz Valli, 30, of Swallow Drive, Blackburn, should be dealt with at Preston Crown Court on a charge of possessing one and a half kilos of heroin with intent to supply.

Both were remanded in custody until Friday when they will appear via the video link at Hyndburn magistrates court. Defence solicitors did not apply for bail.
