I SEE from last week's Citizen that top police officers are meeting the Boundary Committee to voice fears about the possible impact of local government reform - to fit in with a North West Regional Assembly - on policing of the region.

The report made it sound like only a matter of time before we have a regional assembly, but this is far from the case because a referendum now would emphatically say 'no' to a North West assembly.

This month, Lancashire County leader Cllr Hazel Harding has said she is against the idea because the extra tier of government would be too expensive.

I agree with her and also believe it would also be a 'jobs for the boys' exercise.

If we had a regional assembly it would also render us unable to resist Blair's wish to take us into Europe, which the majority do not want. So stay alert and resist it.
