BUSINESSES in Pendle are being asked to contact Environmental Health staff for advice on preventing the potentially fatal Legionnaire's Disease.
Council staff are offering advice on preventing the disease to all businesses, particularly residential homes, as part of a county-wide initiative.
The disease is caused by breathing in small droplets of water contaminated by the Legionella bacteria, which can grow in water systems.
The elderly are a particular risk group and Environmental Health Officers will be working closely with residential homes to ensure preventative measures are in place.
Councillor John David, Pendle Council's portfolio holder for the environment, said: "We would encourage businesses and other organisations to work with the council to prevent the disease appearing in Pendle."
Employers can get a free advice booklet from the Environmental Health Service office at Colne Town Hall, or by ringing 01282 661661.
