RIBBLE Valley councillors say they are still on course for one of the lowest council tax increases in the country next week.
The borough council will set its council tax at a special policy and finance committee meeting on Tuesday in Clitheroe.
The meeting comes after an announcement by Lancashire County Council that rises are set to meet Government targets of around five per cent.
But according to a Ribble Valley spokesman, members will recommend a rise of just 2.9 per cent, which is roughly in line with the rate of inflation.
County finance bosses announced last week they are aiming for a rise of around four per cent, which the Ribble Valley increase will be added to.
Police and fire authority precepts are still yet to be decided and will also be added to the final total before a final figure is agreed.
