BURY motorist Kevin McGuire is to be congratulated on his diligence in exposing the fact that evidence submitted by Bury Metro Council to the National Parking Adjudication Service was doctored (Parking Scam, Bury Times, January 23).
Bury councillors of every party must demand a police investigation into this disgraceful affair. An internal inquiry is simply not good enough; it would merely be a whitewash.
A fraud surely has been committed, with both Bury Metro and NCP publicly "in the dock" until the results of any inquiry are revealed. And they should not be both judge and jury.
It is difficult to believe that this squalid act is an isolated incident. There are too many digital cameras, capable of being tampered with, in the hands of seemingly unscrupulous operators for that to be the case.
Bury Council's claim to "improved status" is currently looking a very hollow one.
