Leigh Centurions 60 Chorley Lynx 10 by Mike Hulme: THE Centurions strengthened their position at the top of their Arriva Trains group after an 11-try mauling of Chorley.

Leigh barely had to raise their game out of second gear to cement the victory that keeps them two points clear of Oldham.

The game was one of low intensity with Leigh scoring virtually every time they put together a fluent attack. Chorley had their spells of pressure and came up with a couple of smart tries in the second half but overall they were well out of their depth.

Second rower Andy Isherwood marked his first start of the season with a hat-trick of tries and there were a couple on debut for young prop Mike Callan as Leigh scored exactly 30 points in each half.

From the moment that Paul Rowley crossed early on and Neil Turley kicked the first of eight goals, Leigh had much of the momentum. It was Turley's clever kick to the corner that brought Dave Alstead a try and then Turley and John Duffy linked to get Isherwood in for his first.

Isherwood's strong running soon brought him a second and just before the break Callan came off the bench to notch his first.

Leigh had the game won with a 30-0 half time lead but were made to pay for some sloppy defending when Chris Newall and Eddie Kilgannon pulled a couple of tries back and Brian Capewell added a goal.

But it was only a brief respite for Chorley as Leigh quickly clicked into gear again.

David Larder stretched over to get the scoreboard ticking again before Isherwood smashed his way through to complete his treble.

The procession of tries continued as Chorley's challenge was brushed aside and before the end Callan, Oliver Wilkes and skipper Ian Knott had all crossed the whitewash.
