Channel 4 have already done it and the BBC are on the lookout for one.

We're talking about Bollywood hopefuls of course. Based on the hit series Pop Idol it's the turn of the UK's British Asian community.

The BBC show 'Bollywood Idol' is looking for a cast of 5 female and 3 male to step forward for a chance to appear in a musical.

Auditions for the cast will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March at Lounge One in Leicester.

To secure your place at the auditions in March, you can download an application pack from the Bolly Idol website, www.bbc.co.uk/bollyidol.

Meanwhile Channel 4's effort Bollywood Star, has already confirmed it's six finalists.

Hundreds of hopefuls auditioned in Dec 2003 at an event where the UK panellists selected a short-list of 22. Following a grand Final that took place in Birmingham this January, the six winners of that will now travel to India.

They will partake in a series of acting and dance classes to tone up their skills.

After being criticised for not having the best judges, Channel 4 also confirmed that renowned Indian Director Mahesh Bhatt is to offer the winner a part in his next film.

Bhatt says, "You need talent to spot talent. For me it is more gratifying to make stars than to buy them. That is why I have agreed to be a part of this programme for Channel 4."

Mahesh will meet the finalists when they travel to Mumbai in India this February for an intense two weeks of training in the 'Bombay boot camp'.

After an action-packed fortnight, Mahesh Bhatt, along with other judges, will choose which one of the finalists is rewarded with a part in his movie.

Manesh will judge the hopefuls alongside, Sophiya Haque, Honey Kalaria, Bally Sagoo and Bobby Friction.

Both series will be aired this summer.
