A THREE-goal burst in a bizarre four minutes midway through the second half consigned Chorley to a damaging defeat.

The ineffective Magpies were unrecognisable from the side which had performed so ably in their last three games.

The introduction of substitute Lee Cooper transformed the proceedings in Prescot's favour and he laid on the first goal before hitting two himself.

Cooper cleverly worked an opening in the 67th minute and set up the unmarked Steve Tarpey, who had all the time in the world to sidefoot Cables in front.

Cooper then broke through the middle and slid the ball under Lee Bracey for Cables' second before breaking clear down the left and again neatly placed his shot past Bracey.

Chorley finally showed some urgency and pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute when David Eatock's superb cross from the right was headed home by Ian Barker.

But Prescot had the final say when Steve McEwan nodded home.
