Having read the article Pick'n'mix is the Fresh way forward, I can relate to it as it is a problem which my family is currently going through due to a marriage to someone from abroad.

I am firmly of the view that in order to stop this injustice happening to girls brought up in this country, the Home Office should completely stop issuing settlement visas to all fiance/ spouses coming from the sub-continent, who use marriage as a pretext for coming here.

If people continue to wish to marry from 'back home' then they should be prepared to go an live 'back home'as was the case in South Africa. And unless this is the case then I am afraid parents, albiet for what they believe to be 'for the benefit of their children', will continue this practice of importing husbands and wives for their offsrping, who in reality have very little or nothing in common with their relatives 'back home.'

Marriage is difficult to maintain but when one's partner deliberately sets out to deceive the other then it is impossible. The man goes on freely to marry again while the woman is held back due to society's narrow views, unless of course she is willing to go through the whole process again and become an import licence for someone else.

Finally, although many people have come from abroad and tired to make good homes for their families, increasingly many are are ruining lives for their own selfish motives. Therefore I believe that this issue is too important to be ignored or brushed under the carpet but should be dealt with openly and henstly.
