BURY police say an operation to cut the number of alcohol related incidents at the weekend was a success.

During the last year there have been 113 crimes committed on Friday and Saturday nights in the town.

The majority involved minor wounding while the rest included serious wounding, criminal damage and public order offences.

More than 20 officers patrolled pubs and clubs on Friday and Saturday enforcing the on-street drinking ban by taking bottles and glasses off drinkers.
