"WE never do things simply" said Stan Ternent, following Saturday's much-needed 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town.

You can say that again. But for the width of a post and a fortuitous deflection in the 89th minute, the Clarets would have been two points and three places worse off than they currently area.

As things stand, Burnley require 15 points from a possible 45 to ensure Turf Moor hosts Division One football in season 2004/05.

Saturday's was a curious victory. Curious in that it took the visitors over an hour to start playing. Once they did, it was apparent that had the Tractor Boys started the match in the same vein in which they finished it, the Clarets would have had a real game on their hands.

By then of course, it was too late, as Burnley had cruised into a well deserved three-goal lead.

Still, that was Joe Royle's problem. And wasn't it nice to put one over on him? In recent times, whenever the Clarets have run into one of his outfits, the net result has been abject misery for Burnley supporters and net rash for whoever was keeping goal for the Clarets.

That things were different on Saturday was down to Glen Little. He quite simply ran the show. With Robbie Blake quieter than usual, Little became the focal point for Burnley's attacks. And aside from his goal, Glen caused all manner of problems for Ipswich.

But while there was much merriment after Saturday's win, there was one sad piece of news from Turf Moor last week, concerning the departure of Arthur Gnohere to QPR.

When Arthur arrived at Burnley, he possessed all the raw ingredients of a great player; pace, power, passion, skill and a heart as big as Turf Moor itself.

He was an immediate hit with the supporters -- never more so than when he bagged a brace at Deepdale in December 2001.

But last season King Arthur seemed to fall out of favour. Comments from Stan Ternent about Arthur being injured between the ears and having his head up his backside hinted that all was perhaps not sweetness and light between the two. Thanks for everything, Arthur, and good luck at Loftus Road. You will be missed.

But let's close on a happy note.

Many congratulations to Richard Chaplow on his cameo appearance for the England Under 21s last week. The sight of a Clarets player wearing the Three Lions brought tremendous pride and joy to everyone connected with Burnley Football Club.

Let's hope David Platt was impressed with him and that the youngster gets many more chances to represent his country.

From Burnley fans everywhere, well done Chappy.
