A WOMAN was found by police banging her head on the ground as people "stood round in amazement," a court heard.

Burnley magistrates were told how jobless Susan Riley, 21, then "wobbled down the road" and started banging her head on the ground again.

Riley, of Joe Connelly Way, Waterfoot, admitted being drunk and disorderly on Railway Street, Burnley, and failing to surrender.

She was given a six months conditional discharge and a four week curfew between the hours of 8pm and 8am.

Kendal Lindley, prosecuting, told the court the defendant was not only a nuisance but a danger to herself.

Janet Sime, defending, said Riley's friends had provided the alcohol all night. One moment she had been enjoying a social evening in the pub and the next thing she remembered was waking up in a police cell.

Riley had no recollection of what happened and that had scared her. She had spent the equivalent of a two day sentence in custody.
