PLAYER-chairman James Webster is already making plans for Colne's FA Vase semi-final showdown - less than 24 hours after earning a tie with AFC Sudbury.

Webster, who starred in last night's 2-1 quarter-final replay win at Eastwood Town, is hoping to reunite the Colne Dynamoes players who won the Vase in 1988 ahead of their second leg game on March 20 at Holt House.

History is repeating itself as Dynamoes faced Sudbury Town in the semi-final 16 years ago on the road to Wembley.

Suffolk-based Town merged with Sudbury Wanderers in 1999 to become AFC Sudbury, while Colne reformed eight years ago.

And Webster is delighted at another chance to put Colne back on the map.

"It's massive for the club and the town," he said.

"The number of phone calls I've had this morning from business in the area offering their services for the semi-final, from printing posters to advertising, is unbelievable.

"I'm also hoping to try to get some of the ex-Dynamoes players together and parade them in front of the crowd before the home leg."

He added: "Getting to the semi-final of the Vase makes all the effort behind the scenes worthwhile."

But Webster admitted there were some nervy moments, not least when the team coach arrived at the ground just five minutes ahead of the scheduled kick-off.

"We'd stopped at Birch services on the M62 to pick a couple of lads up but then got stuck in 18-mile tailbacks caused by an accident," he explained.

"We were told there would be about a 50 minute delay so we turned round to try another route but got stuck in traffic there.

"We got to the ground about twenty to eight and they delayed kick-off until eight o'clock.

"In hindsight it was probably a good thing for us because we were really focused.

"It wasn't a pretty game. They are long-ball merchants, but we defended really well."
