I AM writing in response to Antony Haworth's letter complaining about a community beat manager and support officer cooking for the elderly people of Huncoat.

If this is all he has to complain about in this country today he needs to get out more.

Our country is going to the dogs and he complains about police making an effort with the elderly within the community, who these days are often too frightened to open their doors to people let alone go outside.

The only thing these two are doing is showing that some people still have community spirit.

Obviously Antony Haworth does not believe this.

I know both Matt Thornton and Rachel Carbery and find them both helpful, tactful, very hard working and totally community-spirited.

People often wonder why an elderly person has died on their own and not been missed for three weeks.

People like Matt and Rachel should not be slated for the work they do but praised.
