FIREFIGHTERS in Bury and Whitefield will be offering motorists some tender loving care this weekend.

Officers are taking part in a national car wash day on Saturday to raise money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

The event, to be held at Bury fire station on The Rock and at the Whitefield station on Bury New Road, will take place between 10am and 4pm. In return for cleaning the cars, firefighters will be asking for a small donation to support their fund.

A total of 23 fire stations throughout Greater Manchester are taking part in the national car wash day.

While waiting for their vehicle to be cleaned, members of the public will be given the opportunity to receive information on fire safety in the home.

County Fire Officer Barry Dixon said: "The national car wash day is a great opportunity for us to raise money for a worthwhile cause which has benefited many firefighters and their families over the years.

"For just one day, we hope to see thousands of gleaming cars on the streets of Greater Manchester."
