QUIZ fans can tune in to see a brainy pub bunch tackle the country's top quiz masters on television on October 12.

The six-strong team from the Cart and Horses at Astley, recorded a battle of the minds in the BBC 1 quiz "Eggheads" earlier in the year and the result can be seen on BBC 1 at 12.30pm.

Landlord Malcolm Hilton, Gerald Platt, Dave Foy, John Potter, Alan Cooper and Brian Robinson challenged TV quiz champs past and present, including the first TV Millionaire winner, an international Mastermind and multiple 15-1 champ.

The show, hosted by Dermot Murnaghan, has a jackpot of £1,000 which rolls over until a daily challenger is successful.

Landlady Bessy Hilton said the team, chosen by herself and the customers, was called to an audition in Leeds and afterwards were told they had won a spot on the show.

But the team have to keep the result to themselves for now.

Bessy has also been ringing in the changes at the pub, introducing a touch of the Med with tapas on the menu.

She said: "We wanted to do something different and so far it's working like a treat. The customers seem to be enjoying it because they can have it at the bar or wherever they want. We're planning a bit of a do when the show is broadcast."
