ROSSENDALE United haveo announced that former Chorley, Trafford and Salford City manager Mark Molyneaux will take up the position of player-manager at Dark Lane.

Molyneaux has appointed Wayne Goodison as his assistant.

Goalkeeper Molyneaux has played for several clubs, including Unibond rivals Chorley, Trafford, Droylsden, Hyde United, Macclesfield and Nottingham Forest.

Until recently he has 'guested' for several Unibond League clubs deputising for injured keepers.

As a manager he led Trafford to promotion and narrowly missed out with Chorley in the Unibond Division One play-offs, losing on penalties in the final to Radcliffe Borough.

Dale chairman Declan Callan said: "We have chosen to appoint an experienced management team with a proven track record.

"Both Mark and Wayne have an extensive knowledge of football at Unibond League level. They are in contact with a great many players and are aware of the type needed to bring experience to our otherwise young squad."

Caretaker manager Phil Lockett chose not to be considered for the job preferring instead to continue with his playing career.

The club wish to express their thanks for taking his up the reigns at short notice following the resignation of Ashley Hoskin. The team rallied under his short tenure with an outstanding performance at Colwyn Bay on Tuesday evening, only to be denied victory by an unfortunate own goal 2 minutes into injury time at the end of the game.
