Rylands 24 Golborne Parkside 22: GOLBORNE Parkside visited Rylands in the last 16 of the Tetleys BARLA Lancashire cup and gave heroic performance.

Rylands are four divisions above Golborne, but you wouldn't have thought so as Golborne built up a 8-0 lead in the first 15 minutes with a try from Stuart Naylor plus one conversion and a penalty goal from Stuart Arkwight.

They lost centre Craig Parr and winger Steve Johnson with injuries after high tackles and had to reshuffle. With 25 minutes gone Rylands score a good try and goal but bad luck struck again as Golborne lost influential forward Gareth Dickinson with an ankle injury. Replacement Greg Dale made an immediate impact has he burst through for a try goaled by Arkwright

Rylands hit back immediately with a try and goal to make the half time score 14-12 to Golborne.

With ten minutes of the second half gone Rylands took the lead for the first time with a try and goal to lead. One could have expected Golborne to lie down but not this young side and with 20 minutes remaining they shocked Rylands as once again they swept down field for David Long to go over wide out for a try superbly converted by Arkwight to give Golborne the lead again.

With 14 minutes remaining they extended their lead to 22-18 with a penalty goal from Arkwight after more good pressure.

With 10 minutes remaining Ryands snatched victory with a converted try. James Byrne took the man of the match with Stuart Arkwight second and Ryan Kelly third in a game in which every single players was a hero.

This Saturday the first team visit Albert Park while the second team are at home Accrington, the unbeaten Division Six leaders.

Miners U18s 24, Golborne 8

Golborne gave a creditable performance to come away with a four tries to two defeat. Danny Byrne scored both of Golborne's tries as they were 8-4 down at half time. Andrew Dougherty gave a tough defensive display with a massive 27 tackles in defence.
