A GROUP is calling for volunteers to help in a massive clean-up of a Leigh estate.

Higher Folds' Tenants and Residents' Association has organised an environment week which culminates on Saturday with a community litter pick.

During the week pupils at Higher Folds CP and St Gabriel's RC schools have been planting 1,000 bulbs along Queensway and Westminster Drive and clearing rubbish in the area.

On Saturday (October 2) willing litter pickers are invited to meet up at The Centre shops at 9.30am for two hours of bag filling and from noon until 2pm there will be environmental activities including willow weaving, bird box making and face painting at St Gabriel's Club.

The week has been funded by People and Places and Groundwork and there will be six skips located around the estate from Friday afternoon until late Saturday morning.

They will be at the front of 50, Richmond Drive, the car park on the corner of Westminster Drive-Holyrood Close, St Gabriel's Club, Osborne Grove and Crown Grove car parks and the front of 21, Empress Drive.

Association chairman Jacqui Farrington said: 'We are hoping to brighten up the estate for everyone and want as many people as possible to join us on Saturday."
