A MAN used his car "like a weapon" when he drove at a police officer, Blackburn magistrates were told.
The officer was trapped between the car and a police van before Scott Alan Homer reversed away at speed.
Homer drove backwards down King Street, Blackburn, and collided with a bus shelter as he tried to do a 180 degree turn.
When the car was stopped in Montague Street, Homer tried to run off but was arrested.
Homer, 24, of Ermine Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and without insurance and failing to stop required by a police officer.
He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court for sentence after the magistrates decided their powers of punishment were not sufficient. He also pleaded guilty to breach of a community punishment order and failing to surrender to custody in March 2002.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client disputed the car was used as a weapon. "He was struggling to find the gear and when he did the car shot forward," said Mr Taylor. "It was a genuine mistake."
