BURY AMATEURS AFC...2, GREGORIANS RESERVES...1: BURY entertained last season's champions at Drinkwater Park on Saturday and ground out another fantastic result.

Playing with a moderate wind in the first half, Bury were quick to take advantage and Gary Edwards broke his goalscoring drought with a typical poacher's finish at the far post.

In a very even first half both sides enjoyed spells of good posession, but it was Bury who created the better chances.

Anthony Jackson was a handful up front and it was his through-ball that caused a defensive mix up, allowing Gary Edwards to steal in and grab his and Burys' second.

The second half saw Gregs' really take the game to Bury, who worked extremely hard, and it took a fine move to undo the solid Ammies defense for what proved to be a consolation for the visitors.

It was a vital win for Bury even at this early stage of the season and there were some excellent performances from Craig Birchenough, Vincent Bentham, Gary Edwards and in particular goalkeeper Darren Hobson.

AMMIES: Hobson, Crowley, Birchenough, Bentham, Holdsworth, Subachus, Hickford, Johnson, Hayes, Jackson, Edwards.
