DETECTIVES have launched a hunt for burglars who set fire to a house in Tottington during a break-in.

Fire crews spent four hours at the mid-terraced property in Booth Street on Tuesday.

The blaze started in the kitchen and caused heat and smoke damage to the other downstairs rooms.

The fire was started at about 2pm when burglars got into the house through a rear kitchen door. They took a video, DVD and a digital Sky receiver before starting the blaze in the kitchen area.

Fire crews from Bury and Ramsbottom initially searched the house after fears that someone could have been in the property. But it was empty at the time.

Later the male occupier returned and he was assisted by the fire service's victim's support unit, supervised by the Red Cross.

Police are appealing for information about the incident and wish to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious or may know the offenders.

Anyone who can help should ring Detective Constable Gareth Prosser at Bury CID on 0161 856 8150 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
