Every good striker needs a supplier

IF Blackburn Rovers are to start climbing the Premier League table then it's vital that Mark Hughes injects more creativity into the side.

And he went some way towards doing that earlier this week by bringing Youri Djorkaeff to the club on a free transfer.

I was a big fan of the Frenchman's when he was at Bolton and I just hope he's not too far over the hill to do a similar job here.

Much has been made of Rovers' recent lack of fire-power and it was evident again at Charlton on Monday night.

But I know from experience that strikers are only as good as they service they get and Paul Dickov and Jon Stead have hardly had a feast of chances so far, which is why they were probably happier than anyone to see Youri arrive on Tuesday.

You can't beat having experience in your squad and he certainly has plenty of that.

But he's also the type of clever player that makes chances for others and that's exactly what Rovers need right now.

Scott Sellars was the man who did that job for us when I was a player.

I used to get a lot of the glory for scoring the goals but I wouldn't have scored half as many as I did without players like Scott around to provide them for me.

You always knew instinctively where he'd put the ball and he'd pass it to you exactly when you wanted it.

Let's hope Youri develops a similar understanding with the current Rovers forward line.

I'd also like to see Tugay return against Aston Villa tomorrow. He made a difference when he came off the bench on Monday night and his vision and range of passing could cause Villa problems.

The points are there for the taking so let's be positive and give our strikers the ammunition they need.
