AN internationally renowned Christian speaker from Preston will return to the city to speak at the 150th anniversary celebrations of a Baptist church.

Carey Baptist Church, Pole Street, Preston, celebrates the milestone on the weekend of October 8.

Rev Stephen Gaukroger, originally from Preston and well known in Baptist church circles, has been invited to speak at the celebrations when more than 250 people are expected to attend.

He is the senior minister at Gold Hill Baptist Church, Buckinghamshire, and has written a number of books on his faith. The church will also be holding an exhibition with pictures of the church and its members through the ages.

Rev James Watterson, the church's current minister, is inviting all past and present members of the congregation to the celebrations.

He said: "During this long period of serving God and the people of Preston, Stephen has had a significant impact on the lives of many hundreds of people.

"These days most people only get the opportunity to hear Stephen at large conferences and events like Spring Harvest so we are particularly pleased he is able to be with us."

On Saturday, October 8, there will be a buffet tea in Wilson Hall, next to the church, followed by a celebration service at 7.30pm when Rev Gaukroger will speak.

He will also speak at services at 10.30am and 6.30pm on Sunday October 10, and Councillor Pat Woods, Mayor of Preston, will also be attending the morning service.
