A BIG surprise greeted an unsuspecting guest at TGI Friday's restaurant in Prestwich.

Twenty-year-old Katie Powell was treated to a massive party after becoming the Bury New Road venue's one millionth customer since it opened in August 1995.

Katie, from Droylsden, was celebrating her birthday with 12 friends when she was told the news and was presented with £500 to spend on the night plus a commemorative certificate.

General manager Cain Savazzi said: "One million guests is a huge achievement for us. We wanted to say thank-you to the people of Prestwich by marking this milestone and felt that celebrating in true TGI Friday's style was the best way to do this."

A delighted Katie, who spent the night drinking champagne, said: "It was a complete surprise when I was rewarded with the title of 'one millionth guest' and I thoroughly enjoyed the attention from the rest of the restaurant and all the TGI Friday's staff."
