A 41-year-old woman had been drinking heavily the night she caused a three-car accident, a court heard.

Roseanna Bermingham, of Duckworth Road, Prestwich, did not bother to stop and when arrested told police her ex-partner had been driving.

Empty bottles of alcohol were found in the car and she refused to submit to a breath-test, magistrates in Manchester heard.

Bermingham admitted failing to provide a specimen and driving without due care, last May.

She was given an 18-month rehabilitation order and banned from the road for three years.

Hearing that she had three previous convictions for failing to provide, the bench imposed a six-month curfew, keeping her indoors between 8pm-8am.

Prosecutor Lindsey Willis said Bermingham crashed into a parked car in Stockport Road, Longsight, shunting it into another vehicle. Minutes later she was seen staggering about a garage forecourt in Ardwick.

Carolyn Smith, defending, said Bermingham had been drinking heavily all day because it had been the anniversary of her brother's death.
