A YOUTH accused of an attempted hold-up at a Padiham off-licence appeared before Burnley youth court.

The Padiham 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody until October 28 for committal proceedings after the bench decided his case should be heard at Crown Court.

The youth was arrested at his home on September 27, five days after the alleged incident.

He is said to have pointed a handgun at an assistant's head and to have ordered her to empty the till.

The teenager, represented by John Nuttall, is charged with attempted robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on September 22.
