A BURNLEY family are recovering at home after being involved in a car crash in Majorca two days into their stay.

Cheryl Fitzgerald and her family, daughters Emma 14 and Sian 12, and parents Ted and Judith Harper, 78 and 74, from Wales, were involved in the smash.

Mrs Fitzgerald, a ward manager at Burnley General Hospital, of Shore Avenue, was driving the Ford Fiesta hire car when a young Spanish motorist is believed to have jumped a red light.

She suffered four broken ribs, cuts and bruises and lost four teeth. She was taken to the same hospital as Emma, who was admitted to intensive care with suspected internal bleeding.

Sian, who suffered a head injury and Mrs Harper, who broke seven ribs and a leg were taken to different hospitals on the island.

The pensioner was flown home at the weekend by air ambulance and is being treated at Burnley General Hospital for her injuries, where it was also discovered she suffered a broken elbow.

The accident two weeks ago prompted Mrs Fitzgerald's long-term friend and mayoress Anne Kelly and her daughter, Jill, to fly to Majorca to support the family.

The children's father, Michael Fitzgerald, also flew out to support the Habergham High School pupils.
