CHORLEY manager John Hughes hopes new faces will inspire a change in fortunes for his side.

The Magpies chief has boosted his strikeforce by signing Peter Corvino from Rossendale, and Nigerian front man Harvey Omuya, while David Eatock returns from injury in time for their FA Cup second qualifying round trip to Gateshead tomorrow.

Hughes has also had to call upon a couple of familiar faces to boost his squad as they take a break from a disappointing start to their league campaign.

Great Harwood goalkeeper Darryl Sloan will fill the void between the posts, with stopper John Gillies suspended, while Hughes has also signed former Robins player James Coonan.

"Darryl will come in on Saturday to help us out," the Chorley boss said.

"He is eligible to play for us and Great Harwood because we're in different leagues. But he might just find that he wants to give it a try here if he does well."

And Hughes hopes Sloan can play his part in Chorley progressing in the FA Cup.

"They are having problems the same as we are, but it's going to be tough up there," he said.

"But I know we are a better side than our league results have suggested."

Meanwhile, the Chorley chief believes Dave Gray might benefit from a change of scenery.

The former Bacup star's goalscoring form has deserted him since his recovery from a hernia operation.

"I feel sorry for him because it's not happening for him at the moment with the chances we've been creating," he said.

"He might go somewhere else for a while and start scoring goals to get his form back."
