STEVE Hollis has spoken of his sadness at leaving Accrington Stanley after five years.
But the popular left back admitted that he had little alternative if he wanted to play first team football.
Hollis had found it difficult to feature in Stanley manager John Coleman's plans after agreeing non-contract terms when the club turned full-time in the summer.
"It's been quite difficult," Hollis said.
"The more I didn't play, the harder it got.
"I'm sad to be leaving because it's been a good five years, going up through the UniBond divisions to the Conference, and the cup run last season.
"But it's time to move on."
Hollis was John Coleman's first signing as Stanley manager in 1999, moving from Ashton Town, where he had played under Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell.
The 32-year-old continued: "I'd like to thank the chairman, directors, management and fans for their excellent support over the last six seasons.
"I've played under John and Jimmy for eight years and I'm grateful to them for giving me the opportunities they have in football.
"It's been a pleasure to play for such a friendly club and I wish them every success this season, and hopefully in the Football League next year."
