LANCASTRIAN First squash team pulled off a deserved 3-2 victory against the previously unbeaten table toppers, David Lloyd Bolton.

After a shaky start, where Mike Carter found himself up against a very hard hitting, pacey shot-maker, the match began to turn Lancastrian's way.

Carter lost out 3-1 before Graham Collier and Howard Thornley wrapped up the next two rubbers convincingly. Collier played very well to shut his opponent completely out of the match, to win 3-0, while Thornley encountered stiffer resistance before the Bolton man folded in the fourth game.

It looked all over when Mark Taylor went 2-1 ahead in the next rubber and seemed to be cruising. However the Bolton team were not without fight and Taylors opponent made a determined recovery to win it 3-2

Tod Bulmer then had all the pressure on him to win the final game of a great match. After a fascinating duel Tod gained the upper hand, after being one down, to win 3-1 and on this form Lancastrian can realistically challenge for a promotion spot after the seasonal break.

Lancastrians second team won away to Monton by three games to two.
