LEIGH RU took early control of their game against Sandbach to collect their first double of the season with a 36-3 win.

They opened the scoring when Wilcock was allowed too much room in midfield where his pace easily took him through the visitors defence for a try which he converted. A strong forward surge produced a scrum against the head and an exchange of passes saw S.Lee feed Ian Wood to score.

A long range Wilcock penalty extended the lead to 15-0 before good recycling of the ball saw S.Lee again crash through the midfield cover to feed D.Liku for a try, also converted by Liku for a half-time scoreline of 22-0.

Leigh continued to play an open game and good interplay between the backs allowed winger Oldham to complete a fine handling movement, and the same player broke from his own 22 metre line and drew the cover before feeding Wilcock for the final try. Wilcock added the conversions to both tries.

A strengthened Glossop side were unable to prevent Leigh Tofts from notching up their ninth win of the league campaign.

Graham Green led the forwards by example to earn Man of the Match, ably supported by brother Barry Green, Grimshaw and Smith. Tries came from Rick Fryer, Dickinson and Isherwood (2).

Leigh Vets bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Sarobuk. Outstanding for Leigh were hooker Alan Thompson who took countless ball against the head and scored a fine try. Also worthy of a mention was centre Steve Smith who scored five and his centre partner Paul Daniels who got a hat-trick. Leigh's other scorers were Peter Tustin, Nick Aspinall, Paul Deakin, Chris Whittle and Terry Sutton. Ian Westwell converted nine.

Leigh Colts turned the tables on Oldham to win 30-7.

Phil Summers got the important early score followed by a conversion and penalty by Andrews. Crompton then stormed over from a tap penalty before Oldham hit back with a converted try. Andrews restored the Leigh advantage with a late first half penalty.

The second half saw the Leigh forwards continue their ascendancy with a try from Blinkhorn, converted by Andrews. A late try from winger Paul Morgan sealed the win after an excellent team effort.

The U12s reached Christmas unbeaten with a 14-14 draw against Vale of Lune. Ben Jones opened the scoring side stepping his way over, Josh Gannon silky skills soon added another with a weaving pacey run. Scott Town bagged a brace after powerful surges by the Leigh forwards. Adam Tustin scooted in for the last try from the base of the scrum. Josh Gannon converted all.

Leigh U9s edged out Bolton U9s 45-35. Player of the Match was C Davies, Top Tackler was D Yarwood and tries came from E Liku 3, J Thorpe 1, C Davies 3 and S Carney2.

Leigh's Under 8's continued their impressive run with an easy 55-10 win over Bolton. Top Try Scorers were Gannon and Jones, Top Tagger was Roddy and Man of the Match was C Thorpe.
