SECURITY guards were robbed at gunpoint by raiders wielding a sawn off shotgun and a pistol.

The two masked men confronted the security guards as they delivered cash to a convenience store on Church Lane, Lowton at 10.50am on Monday.

They threatened them with the weapons and demanded that they hand over the money.

The raiders are believed to have driven a blue Toyota Celica which was reported stolen from Stavesacre, Leigh, on October 20, last year.

The car was discovered on fire on Oaklands Avenue following the armed robbery and the raiders escaped in another car.

The first raider, who was armed with the shot gun, is around 6ft tall, of large build and was wearing a brown padded jacket and gloves.

The second offender, who was armed with a pistol is around 5ft 9ins and of medium build.
