RESIDENTS living near to the site of the former East Lancs Paper Mill site, have raised objections with the developers.

At a meeting at Radcliffe Hall CE Methodist School, Bury Street, residents of the surrounding streets met with Gareth Edmunds from communications company, Green Issues, who are working on behalf of site owners P&F Properties.

The former mill, in Church Street East has been earmarked as the site for Radcliffe's new state-of-the-art high school.

But artists' impressions, created by URBED, of what the area could look like, have already angered residents at public consultation, as industrial units have been sited near to existing housing estates.

Residents said they did not want to have the units behind their houses, and asked Mr Edmunds if developers could find an alternative location for them.

The industrial units will be included in the redevelopment to maintain a level of employment in the area.

Residents were also angered by the emptying of the lodges on the site and the reduction of wildlife this will cause, but Coun Wayne Campbell confirmed that the site now belonged to P&F Properties and they were able to do what they wanted with the lodges.

Mr Edmunds said he would take the ideas and issues raised by residents, to be discussed once again with the developers.
