A BURGLAR has been given a "Cinderella" curfew for two and a half years to stop him from committing crime at night.

Magistrates made the Anti-social Behaviour Order against Nathan Redmond, 31, after hearing police repeatedly found him wandering the streets of Longridge after dark.

The Blackburn court heard that Redmond, who targets garages and sheds, had "worked round" a previous ASBO which banned him from specific areas by moving into other parts of town.

Redmond, of Fairsnape Avenue, Longridge, admitted burglary at a garage in Green Lane and theft of power tools worth £414.

He also admitted being in breach of an ASBO when he was found carrying a pair of gloves and a lock knife which could be used in the course of burglary.

Redmond also asked for three offences - burglary at a garage in Higher Road and two attempted burglaries at garages in Poplar Drive - to be taken into consideration.

He was jailed for a total of eight months and the previous ASBO was replaced with a new, two and a half year order.

It bans him from entering the Lower Lane, Mardale and Green Lane areas of Longridge.

He is also subject to a curfew between midnight and 7am, preventing him entering the "public domain" during those hours.

Scott Ainge, prosecuting, said that as well as the charge and offences to be taken into consideration, police had recorded numerous occasions when Redmond had been found at large in the early hours.

He said on several occasion he was had a torch and on one was "clearly high on drugs."

Mr Ainge said that by his own admission Redmond had a £10 a day heroin addiction.

"He is in receipt of benefits and there is an obvious shortfall even if you accept the figure he has put forward," said Mr Ainge.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Redmond's problems all stemmed from heroin abuse.
