I'll walk with Evening through the lanes,

And well-remembered paths so dear,

Where danced and sang the summer rains,

'Neath rainbow's arch, so wide, so near.

I'll walk with Evening to the church,

To pray amid its hallowed glow,

And let the Evening with me search

For deeps of love my heart would know.

I'll roam with Evening by the tide,

Where moon-washed pebbles stream the shore,

And to my Evening I will confide

My knowledge of an ancient lore.

That tells of spirits of the night

Who guard the chambers of my mind,

Protect my joy till morning light,

Till Evening once again I find.
