STEVE Cotterill was delighted after seeing Burnley bounce back to winning ways thanks to a spot of first Ade!

Striker Ade Akinbiyi failed to grab a goal to cap a powerhouse performance in Saturday's 3-1 win over Watford at Turf Moor.

But Cotterill still heaped praise on his recent £600,000 signing, who endeared himself to Clarets fans with a selfless display of front running.

"Ade didn't get a goal, but I am absolutely delighted with his performance," said the Burnley boss.

"He is certainly not the silkiest, but if you cut him in half it says 100 per cent and I think he gave us that.

"He will go on to be better, but he has only played two games, two minutes and 38 seconds in the last four months and when we get a few more games out of him I think he will take things on."

Debut goals from Dean Bowditch and James O'Connor and a late Jean-Louis Valois tap-in banished the memory of back-to-back defeats before the Easter break to seal only the second win in nine Championship games

And Cotterill added: "The unselfishness Ade showed at the end, when he chased a ball down, shrugged off a defender and rolled it into Jean-Louis' path, was great to see.

"I am not so sure I would have wanted to pass it from there. I might have had a whack with my left foot, but Ade is a giver.

"There are people in life who take, but he is a giver. He is infectious and he gives a lot and if you carry on giving as he does, you will get your rewards."

Following their two-week lay-off, Burnley are quickly back in action again tomorrow night, when West Ham United pitch up at Turf Moor.

Cotterill insisted: "The worry going into the Watford game was always going to be that first 45 minutes after the break.

"In the end, we had no need to worry about that - it was our second half we needed to be a little bit more on our toes.

"But it's gone now and we have to look forward to another game on Tuesday."
