TWO Bury teenagers supported by NCH's Extra Mile project met former world middleweight boxing champion Chris Eubank after penning poetry during their time in care.

Marlon Prescod (16) and Becky Daley (19) met the boxer when he presented them with certificates recognising their poetry talents as part of the first Let's Hear it for Care Week.

The week is aiming to boost awareness of the roles people can play in helping children in care to enjoy brighter futures.

Marlon and Becky, who are both supported by the Extra Mile project in Bridge Street, Bury, were two of 100 youngsters to take part in the celebratory event at Portcullis House in Westminster, along with Bury North MP David Chaytor.

NCH Bury Leaving Care project manager Catherine Slater said: "For these young people to have their talents recognised is fantastic. Being in the care system should not be a barrier to succeeding, as Marlon and Rebecca have proved so well."

The NCH's Extra Mile project works with youngsters leaving the care system, helping to make the transition as smooth as possible.
