I SEE that Mr Ian Upton (Letters, March 22) has fired the opening shot in his campaign on behalf of Veritas, which I believe to be the consequence of UKIP not being big enough to contain MEP Robert Kilroy-Silk's ego.
Mr Upton castigates, in the best traditions of the "straight banana" school of Eurocriticism, the European Union for legislation aimed at protecting our environment. He concludes that illegal fly-tipping is caused by over-zealous EU legislation.
Let's face it, Mr Upton, you could widen that to say that all law-breaking is caused by laws which law-breakers find inconvenient and we should abolish all laws so that there will be no law-breaking. Undeniably true, but hardly a recipe for a civilised or sustainable society.
