MEMBERS of Bury Parish Church Mothers' Union met on Tuesday evening, April 5. The speaker was Julie Reeman and her subject "Traidcraft".
Her story began when she recalled having her premature baby in England. She thought how different and difficult it would have been in Africa. She now helps at her church in St Annes where they have a stall to sell Fair Trade goods.
Julie showed slides of her trip to Kenya to see goods being produced. From tea picking to basket-making and wood carving.
With Traidcraft, water supplies are improved, workshops provided for the disabled, and medical help provided for HIV victims. Traidcraft exchange has spread to other countries and training and advice is given on which goods will sell, so that with fair wages, there should be less poverty in the world.
