CHARITY began at home for the Tottington Townswomen's Guild.

The group handed over £1,550 to St Anne's Church in Tottington, which is in the process of raising money to develop the parish hall into a facility for community use.

Publicity officer for the guild, Mrs Marion Ashworth said: "We adopted the village hall as our charity for the year because we are based in Tottington and the village has needed something like this for many years."

The money was raised through a number of fundraising efforts held over the past 12 months, including a plant sale.

"For the past three years we have chosen a local charity to support, because there have seemed to be a number of causes close to home that have needed help. But in the past we have raised money for a number of national charities as well."

The next 12 months will be dedicated to raising money for the Bury Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted.
