INTREPID explorers from Ramsbottom Scout Group are preparing for a challenge of a lifetime as they travel to Finland this summer for a 10-day expedition.

The group of 10 Scouts will be hoping to attain their Explorer Belts by learning more about another country's people and their culture.

The Explorer Scouts, all aged over 16, will be separated into teams and travel on foot for at least 30 hours visiting four different towns or villages and covering an estimated distance of 100 miles.

During the Explorer Belt trip, the group will be surviving on a tight budget and each Scout will need to complete a project of their choice every day to give them a deeper understanding of their surroundings and take advantage of any hospitality.

The Scouts will be holding several events to raise funds for their trip including a concert with Tottington Public Band on April 21 at Greenmount Church on Holcombe Road. The concert will begin at 8pm with tickets priced at £3, and £1 for under-16s.

A car treasure hunt will also be held on May 15 at Greenmount Old School, Brandlesholme Road, from 2pm.
