BURNLEY can hammer the final nail in Nottingham Forest's coffin next weekend - but only if they battle for 'more than 90 minutes'!

The Clarets drew 1-1 with Championship strugglers Brighton on Saturday after allowing Albion back into the game with a sloppy second half display following Ade Akinbiyi's first half strike.

And with relegation-haunted Forest now needing a win against Steve Cotterill's side at the City Ground next Saturday to keep alive their faint hopes of avoiding the drop - the Burnley boss warned his side need to be wary of letting their standards slip.

Cotterill said: "I just don't know where that second half performance on Saturday came from.

"It happened against Watford and now it's happened again against Brighton. There is no rhyme or reason behind it and I can't work it out.

"We played some very good football in the first half and could easily have gone in 5-0 up.

"When I went in at half time, I told them the players that was probably the best we have played since the second half at Coventry.

"But Brighton made a game of it and unfortunately, over the closing weeks, we have been facing teams that have as much to play for as those trying to get into the Premiership.

"Watford had a go and Brighton have now, so we need to be wary of that."

Meanwhile, Burnley chief executive Dave Edmundson has paid tribute to the '500 Miles' patrons who helped to save the club from financial disaster.

The 500 individuals and organisations, who each contributed £1.000 last year following a financial appeal, were rewarded as the Clarets wore a special shirt bearing all their names on Saturday following a parade around Turf Moor.

Edmundson said: "I would just like to say a personal thank you to the people who contributed to the 500 Miles Club and also those who have supported the club during difficult times.

"There is no doubt this club has been saved by the passion and continued generosity of its fans."
