IN answer to the comments of Mr Howard, of Wilpshire (Letters, April 13) regarding the Tesco store in Blackburn.

Firstly, it must be remembered that this particular store has been around for a considerable number of years now and may, naturally, be showing its age but it's not that bad.

It is also unfair to compare the store with that in Burnley which is almost new.

However, I do agree with Mr Howard that the petrol station needs improving as it can get very congested at the busiest times.

Regarding Mr Howard's criticism of the staff as "miserable," this is unfair in the extreme.

On this issue I must concur with Victoria Haworth (Letters, April 15) in that I, too, have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful to the point that if you enquire where any particular item is that you can't find, they will promptly stop whatsoever it is that they are doing and assist you in locating it with good grace.

Similarly I have had cheerful conversations with the young ladies on the "deli" counter and have found the check-out staff to be pleasant, courteous and helpful.

Finally, if Mr Howard has problems with the car park he should try Asda at Accrington where, often, both ingress and egress can be a nightmare with traffic backing up.
