SHAKERS need just five league goals in the forthcoming season to become the ONLY club to have scored 1,000 goals in each tier of league football

At the end of the last campaign Bury had successfully completed 100 seasons of league football one of only 23 clubs to achieve such a feat.

In addition, it is also one of only 27 clubs to have played in over 4,000 league games, and one of only 24 to have scored over 6,000 league goals.

The Shakers' league scoring record currently stands at 1,176 goals in the top flight (the old Division One); 2,396 in the second tier (old Division One/new Division One); 1,520 in the third tier (Division 3 North, old Division Three, new Division Two); and 995 in the fourth tier (old Division Four, new Division Three, League Two).

The 2005-06 League Two season will include only six other clubs, in addition to Bury, who have experienced top tier league football

Carlisle United, Leyton Orient and Northampton Town have all played just one season in the top flight.

Oxford United have totalled three seasons whilst Grimsby Town have amassed 12 seasons, but scored just 756 goals at that level and seem unlikely to add to that in the near future.

Notts County, who spent 30 seasons in the top flight (1403 goals) are the only club who can equal the Shakers record, having scored 673 in the fourth tier so far.

For the record, the clubs who have completed 100 league seasons are:-

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Bury, Derby County, Everton, Grimsby Town, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Notts County, Preston North End, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
