THIRTY new allotments are set to be opened in Darwen at the end of April.

Overgrown land off Rose Hill Street has been tranformed into Roseberry Park after campaigning work by Tracy Jones, of Somerset Avenue, local councillors and Capita on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Mrs Jones is now looking for a celebrity who knows about gardening to officially open the site, which will be used by local schoolchildren as well as keen gardeners.

She said: “It’s very pleasing to think that the first phase will open soon.”
