A COLLEGE student from Burnley has made the final of the Miss Teen Galaxy UK competition.

Eighteen-year-old Layla Griffiths has made the final 45 from a total of 6,000 who entered the prestigious beauty contest.

Layla, from the Brunshaw area, will compete in the final in Cheshire over a number of challenges.

She said: “I have entered other beauty pagents in the past and a modelling career is definitely something I want to do.

“I am quite confident about the final. As a finalist you have to make appearances in your home town and I’ve done a few at Burnley College.

“I’m sponsored by the Arora restaurant as well and will be doing an appearance there.”

Despite being keen to pursue a modelling career Layla, who is in her second year at Burnley College, wants to get qualifications as well.

She is taking A-Levels in film studies, english literature, performing arts and history, and wants to go to university.

“I have already had offers from university,” she said, “but I want to take a gap year first and do a bit of modelling.

“Then I will go to uni and probably do history and politics.”

If Layla wins the Miss Teen Galaxy final then she will represent the UK in the Miss Teen Galaxy International competition in an as yet unnamed exclusive resort in the USA.

Previous winners have gone on to do magazine work and appear at Fashion Week in Dubai.

While not studying Layla says she likes to keep fit and play sports, including badminton and golf.

She also loves beauty pagents and intends to carry on entering as many as I can.

She said: “I have met some amazing friends at pagents who I will never forget.

“These experiences have made me realise how much I actually love pageants, and how devoted I am to them.

“I think girls bond so well with each other at pageants because they find that they have a lot of things in common.”

The competition is run by Galaxy International, an event production company specializing in beauty pageants.
