A Chorley man has died after falling from a rope swing into a water filled disused quarry.

A diving team recovered the body of 21-year-old Cameron McInnes, from Eccleston from the water yesterday morning, almost a day after he plunged from the swing at Hilldale in Parbold.

Mr McInnes was with a group of four friends playing on the rope swing over the water on Sunday.

While he was on the swing the wooden handle is believed to have snapped.

His friends called the emergency services at 2.50pm after he disappeared from view and did not re-emerge.

A team was assembled to search the lodge including specialist divers, mountain rescue experts and police officers.

The search was halted when darkness fell with the body eventually located at 10.50am on Monday.
