FEARS have been raised over a ‘dangerous’ junction where parked cars make it difficult for motorists to see if traffic is approaching.

Highway chiefs have re-painted double yellow lines in Booth Road and Pleasant View, Waterfoot, to stop vehicles parking at the jun-ction.

The action was taken after residents told highway chiefs of visibility problems when exiting Pleasant View into Booth Road.

But drivers who live in the area yesterday said the problems still exist, despite the double yellow lines having been painted.

County and borough councillors will discuss the issue at tonight’s meeting of the Lancashire Local Rossendale committee.

A report to the committee says complaints have been received from residents in Pleasant View, Fern Street and Park View.

The lines were originally painted in 1991 but had faded so vehicles were parking close to the junction.

One resident in Booth Road, who bought his house in 2005, told highway bosses he was unaware of the restrictions when he moved in.

He complained to Lancashire County Council because he is now unable to park in front of his house.

But residents who often emerge in their cars from Pleasant View into Booth Road said the restrictions should remain and be made tighter.

Katrina Beard, of Pleasant View, said she had been involved in a collision when trying to exit the street. She said: “It’s an absolute nightmare. The double yellow lines haven’t made any difference. People just park further down the road now.”

Colin Tighe, who has lived in Pleasant View for the last five years, said he had two small children, aged three and three months.

He said: “When you get to the edge you can’t see anything at all.

"You have to be careful, especially when you have two kids in the car.”

Katrina Rawstron, of West View, said a mirror could be installed opposite the junction so people could see when the road was clear.”
