BLACKBURN with Darwen Council has pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by signing up to the 10:10 campaign.
The council has set an ambitious target to reduce its emissions by 10per cent this year, which could save up to £500,000 a year.
The council emits nearly 30,000 tonnes of carbon every year from its buildings, school, streetlights, fleet and business travel.
Councillor Alan Cottam, executive member for regeneration and environment, said: “Whether you are a global warming believer or a sceptic, it is still in all of our interest to conserve natural resources for our children and their children."
